What is this website all about?
Judge A Book By Its Cover is a website that allows you to do just that, judge a book, CD or DVD by its cover.
There are two different games in each category, "Judge a Cover" and "Head to Head!"
- In "Judge a Cover" simply rate the cover from 1 star to 5 stars!
- For "Head to Head!" it is a fight between two covers - simply click on the cover you think is best (you can call it a draw if it is too hard to choose!)
In both games please try to be objective about the cover design! If you've read, heard or seen the item in question, ignore your opinions and rate the cover only!
Once you've rated a cover you'll see what percentage of people agreed with your judgement, more information about the item's individual rating, and two charts showing the top and bottom covers in your selected category and game.
Why did you create Judge A Book By Its Cover?
I'd been thinking of ways to use Amazon web services in a cool website, and following a random conversation at work regarding this, we came up with this website!
How does Judge A Book By Its Cover work?
- I use the Amazon web service to provide me with a list of bestsellers in each category (books, CDs and DVDs) on a daily basis.
- If they are not already in the database, I add them in, and they become part of the rotation of covers.
- Covers for judging and head to head battles are selected, and you judge them!
- How you judge a cover determines where a cover is in our charts.

What's with all the ads and links through to Amazon?
Unfortunately running a website isn't free, so I'm using carefully placed adverts, and special links through to Amazon, to help pay the running costs of the website. If I'm very lucky I might turn a profit, but I doubt it!
Why are all the items based on the UK market?
As the website is on the .co.uk domain, it makes sense that it should return UK data. However, if the site takes off I do plan to expand it to cater for other areas of the world, such as the US, Europe etc.
Why does this website "horizontally scroll" in my browser?
You are probably one of the small, and constantly getting smaller, group of users who have a screen resolution of 800x600. This site is designed to work with screen resolution 1024x768 or greater.
